From Shed to Treehouse?

I admit to turning down a $20k freebie that would’ve more than covered the renovation of this shed (currently storing old paint cans, various scrap wood, upholstery foam, and a sprinkling of rat poop), turning it into the soundproof recording studio & standalone bedroom of our dreams — because, well, there were too many strings attached.

Or, really just one, but a big one: broadcasting our kids on American TV, which is too big an audience to associate a cute kid with the residence where they live, or at least that’s how it felt in the moment.

Point is, we have to figure out how to do it by ourselves now! Ideally by June, which is when our next full-time storyteller-in-residence plans to move in.

The vision includes lofted storage, a porch off the western side of it (shown here), that doubles as a ground-level monological stage and a roofdeck that wraps around the tree shown behind. Naturally this would have to go in several stages, but — can you imagine ?!

And of course I’d love to rig and outdoor shower on the other side, between the structure and the fence — there’s already a drain passage there coming in from the street, so we’d want to line them up and create a grey water pond below, possibly where the picnic table is now.

Anyone like to swing a hammer? :)
