Making Beauty Out of Broken Things.

About Hybrasil House

Hybrasil House is a half-acre creekside residence in the capital of Texas. In this liminal space where urban, suburban, and wildlife cultures meet, Zaelí, her daughter, and their guests have fun using what is in abundance to discard expired narratives and conjure new possibilities for personal & ecological fulfillment, through experimental art & shared observations.

Our materials

Our primary materials are imagination, music, litter, broken & outgrown household items, humor, heritage, second-hand books, sidewalk scores, neighborly participation, coffee grinds, limestone, and whatever the soil is pushing up.

Our inspiration

Our inspiration comes from the concept of sanctuary, the Dáil house on the Great Blasket Island, the Oldenburgean 'third place' of shibeens & pubs, the Black Panthers' social work, post-war salons, the Margaret Fuller Neighborhood House, every cool secret gem of a spot we've happened upon through sheer luck or word of mouth, convents & sororities, red tents, sand paintings, walking meditations, social movements that brought us public libraries & local green spaces, Austin's opportunity for weirdness, our own deep somatic dreams.

Our vision

Our vision is to expand this special homestead into one that will open first to immediate neighbors, offering community-bonding events & access to resources such as our growing private library, hyperlocal apothecary, and atmospheric sculpture garden. To provide a place of relaxation & expansion for tired mothers in particular. To expand opportunities for artists & practitioners who believe community is a 3D experience that must be grounded in the tending of watersheds. To have fun & witness each other's brilliance as we try, fail, and try again to make the most of our time on this ever-changing earth.
